The unit of production economics is part of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Oulu. Production economics trains undergraduate engineering candidates, graduate engineers and doctors who are familiar with technology and the operations of industrial companies for the needs of the university's area of ​​influence and its stakeholders. Pohjolan Voima produces electricity and heat with hydropower, thermal power and nuclear power on an at-cost basis for its customers. We focus on large scale energy production. Our owners are our customers, Finnish export sector companies, energy companies and cities - in total 23. 

The share of Pohjolan Voima's electricity generation of the total electricity production in Finland is just under 20 per cent. Nearly 95 per cent of that amount is carbon-neutral.
