The unit of production economics is part of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Oulu. Production economics trains undergraduate engineering candidates, graduate engineers and doctors who are familiar with technology and the operations of industrial companies for the needs of the university's area of influence and its stakeholders. Production economics combines technical know-how, mastery of economics methods and an understanding of human behavior. In the production economy, phenomena are studied and problems are solved from these three perspectives. The Research Unit for Industrial Economics at the University of Oulu places special emphasis on the following research areas: product management, project management, well-being at work and productivity, and managing production activities. The latest research data in the field is utilized in teaching. Research and teaching complement each other in daily activities. The production economy has been an active player in the HSEQ cluster since its inception. We participate in the activities of the cluster through research and development projects, theses and active cluster work.

Pohjolan Voima produces electricity and heat with hydropower, thermal power and nuclear power on an at-cost basis for its customers. We focus on large scale energy production. Our owners are our customers, Finnish export sector companies, energy companies and cities - in total 23.
The share of Pohjolan Voima's electricity generation of the total electricity production in Finland is just under 20 per cent. Nearly 95 per cent of that amount is carbon-neutral. Pohjolan Voima has 21 power plants across Finland. The turnover of Pohjolan Voima was in 2019 422 million euros and the number of employees was 89.

Gasgrid Finland is a state-owned gas transmission network company (TSO), that started its operations t the beginning of 2020 and whose task is to ensure cost-effective, safe and uninterrupted gas transmission and to actively develop the gas market and the Finnish energy system. It has system responsibility for the entire gas transmission network in Finland.
